Human rights activists accuse the authorities and the Council of Europe
Roundtable with participation of human rights defenders took place on Wednesday in the Media Center on the latest rallies and arrests of their members.
The participants expressed their outrage about the arrest of Ilgar Mamedov and Tofig Yagublu. The authorities jail innocent people. If it continues, any citizen may be jailed, participants said.
Ilgar Ibrahimoglu said Ilgar Mamedov and Tofiq Yagublu did not have any attitude to the events in Ismailli. As representatives of human rights groups and party structures, they went to Ismailli to review the situation on the ground. "We need immediate effective actions, otherwise the arrest will last for a long," he said.
Novella Jafaroglu believes that human rights should be on a single position on these events. The authorities want to spread fear and drive people into a corner and silence him. We must demand the immediate and unconditional release of the arrested, she said.
According to Eldar Zeynalov, this is how the authorities fight against dissent. He believes that Ilgar Mammadov was arrested not for Ismayilli events, but for the events in Baku. He reminded that every time before election, the authorities come up with something: tighten the financial activities of the parties, introduce high fines for participating in unauthorized rallies.
Anar Mammadov noted that to go to Ismailli and look what happened there it was the duty of every employee NGOs, political parties, journalists and social activists.
He offered to conduct own investigation into the activity of Yagublu and Mamedov in Ismayilli.
Arzu Abdullayeva called on the colleagues to be organized. "We can not remain silent against the prevailing lawlessness, when innocent people are arrested and thrown into prison, and all this is happening in an election year," she said.
The participants accused international organizations, including the Council of Europe, for contemplative attitude and lack of an active response to the events in Azerbaijan.
Deputy Head of Mission of the Council of Europe in Azerbaijan, Teymur Malikaslanov said Ilgar Mamedov is a member of the Council of Europe, and the structure is going to support him. "We always support our employees. The Council of Europe has full information of what is happening, and this information goes to Strasbourg," he said.
The head of the IRFS, Emin Huseynov, said that Azerbaijan needs PACE rapporteur on the elections. It is necessary because Azerbaijan has to report on its obligations.
Following the meeting, it was decided to appeal to president of the country, demanding the immediate release of Ilgar Mamedov and Tofig Yagublu, and to send appeal to the Council of Europe. -04С-
