Ilham Aliyev attended groundbreaking ceremony for new thermal power plant in Mingachevir
Baku/13.02.23/Turan: President Ilham Aliyev attended the groundbreaking ceremony for a new thermal power plant with a capacity of 1,280 MW in Mingachevir on Monday.
"This is a landmark event, which will significantly strengthen the country's energy potential and will further increase the importance of Mingachevir as the centre of Azerbaijan's power industry," Aliyev said.
According to him, the consumption of conditional fuel at the future plant will be low, which will save from 800 million to 1 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
Aliyev emphasized that the new station "will also become another contribution to Europe's energy security".
* On October 25, 2022 the President of Azerbaijan ordered on modernization of the Azerbaijan thermal power plant in Mingachevir.
It is planned to reconstruct the Azeri thermal power plant by applying modern technologies to thus increase the capacity of the 7th and 8th power units and bring their total capacity from 600 megawatt to 1280 megawatt.
There are 8 blocks with installed capacity of 300MW each. About 45% of the total Azerbaijani electricity is produced in the station. -06D-

The International Committee of Concerned Scholars (ICS) has appealed to the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, requesting his assistance in securing the release of the arrested researcher, Igbal Abilov. The ICS expressed concern that Abilov's arrest "may be related to his research on ethnic minorities in Azerbaijan, conducted in collaboration with scholars from Armenia."
