Ilham Aliyev: Multiculturalism is an important component of state policy
Baku / 02.05.19 / Turan: The Fifth World Forum for Intercultural Dialogue has begun today under the motto "Building a Dialogue to Combat Discrimination, Inequality and Violent Conflict" at the Heydar Aliyev Center.
"For centuries, representatives of various religions and ethnic groups have lived together in Azerbaijan, and an atmosphere of religious tolerance has constantly reigned," said President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, speaking before the forum participants.
According to him, multiculturalism in Azerbaijan is an important component of state policy.
The year 2016 in Azerbaijan was declared the Year of Multiculturalism, and the year 2017 - the Year of Islamic Solidarity.
In the opinion of the president, the development of multiculturalism as a world trend would be an important contribution to peace and partnership at the international level.
In this sense, a constant cycle of measures in this direction held in Azerbaijan is of great importance.
According to Aliyev, the support of the "Baku process" from the UN and other authoritative international organizations is evidence of the contribution of the state policy of Azerbaijan to the development and expansion of international cooperation.
Regarding the implementation of global projects by Baku, Aliyev stressed that the international transport corridors created at the initiative of Azerbaijan serve to further strengthen ties between countries and peoples.
Referring to the Karabakh conflict, Aliyev noted that, despite the unresolved problem, Azerbaijan is developing rapidly.
The Forum has been organized with support of the Azerbaijani government and the partnership of UNESCO, the UN Alliance of Civilizations, the World Tourism Organization, the Council of Europe and ISESCO. High-ranking officials from more than 100 countries and over 30 international organizations take part in the event. -06D-
