Ilham Aliyev Presented Petitions to CEC
The ruling party, New Azerbaijan has submitted the petitions for the presidential candidate Ilham Aliyev. According to the ruling party, CEC received 900 signature sheets with 45,000 signatures, as well as the relevant documents.
At present, CEC has approved 12 candidates for President in the upcoming October presidential election:
Ilham Aliyev;
Chairman of the Azadlig Party, Ahmed Oruj;
Ilgar Mamedov (Altai);
Chairman of the Umid Party, Igbal Aghazadeh;
Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party, Fuad Aliyev;
Chairman of the Citizen and Development Party, Ali Aliyev;
Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Araz Alizadeh;
Chairman of the United Popular Front of Azerbaijan, Gudrat Hasanguliyev;
Chairman of the Modern Musavat Party, Hafiz Hajiyev;
MP, Zahid Oruj;
Chairman of the National Revival Movement, Faraj Guliyev;
Head of the Research Center East-West, Arastun Orujlu.
Another five people competing for the presidential candidates have submitted their documents to the CEC.
In accordance with the law, every candidate for the approval of his nomination for President has to submit at least 40,000 signatures to CEC.
The campaign will begin on September 16. The presidential election will be held on October 9. The last presidential elections were held on 15 October 2008. -016B04-

The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, has expressed condolences to the President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, following the tragic incident in the city of Magdeburg. "We are deeply shocked by the news of the deaths and injuries resulting from the tragic incident that took place at the Christmas market in Magdeburg," the message reads.
