Baku / 14.11.17 / Turan: A solemn ceremony on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the creation of the Yeni (New) Azerbaijan Party (YAP) is taking place in the Heydar Aliyev Center today.
The ceremony is attended by the head of the party, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. He delivered a speech at the ceremony, reports Azertaj. YAP was established on November 20, 1992 in Nakhchivan under the chairmanship of Heydar Aliyev, who then headed the autonomy parliament.
After the events of June 1993, when President Abulfaz Elchibey was overthrown by Colonel Suret Huseynov as a result of the military insurgency and Heydar Aliyev came to power, YAP invariably is in power.
The opposition challenged the democratic character of all elections held in the country, the last 24 years. The OSCE/ODIHR observation missions pointed to the shortcomings in holding elections in terms of compliance with their international standards in this area. -06D--

Former head of the International Bank of Azerbaijan (IBA) Jahangir Hajiyev continues his hunger strike in colony No. 13, which he announced on May 1.
