Independent media and NGOs not invited to presentation of the Action Plan with the Council of Europe
Baku/21.05.14/Turan : On May 20, independent media and NGOs were not invited to the presentation of the Joint Action Plan by the Ministry of Justice of Azerbaijan and the Council of Europe for 2014-2016.
It is , at least, surprising, since most of the contents of the plan are directed just to improve the functioning of these institutions necessary for a democratic society. This approach casts doubt on the sincerity of the Azerbaijani authorities in the implementation of the measures contained in the plan and suggests that this document, as well as other plans and programs of the government in the field of human rights will be a declarative character and the work performed will be an imitation of democratic reforms.
Note that the presentation was attended by the Minister of Justice Fikret Mammadov, Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland, the representatives of other state agencies of Azerbaijan, the Ombudsman, MPs, ambassadors of the Council of Europe and pro-government NGOs and the media. -06D-
