Investigation of Ex-MP Guler Ahmadova"s Fraud Case
The criminal investigation of the ex-MP Guler Ahmadova's fraud case has been completed. Since February 13, she has been under arrest. The criminal case against her is on two counts: 178.2 (fraud) and 307.2 (deliberate concealment of crime). Ahmadova may be deprived of liberty for up to 12 years with confiscation of property for these items.
The reason for the arrest was the video spread by the former Rector of the International University, Elshad Abdullayev. On these shots taken with a hidden camera, you can see how Ahmadova and her accomplice Babayeva extort $ 1 million from Abdullayev for his election as MP.
According to her lawyer Rafig Mustafayev, who talked to Turan, she is being acquainted with the case. She does not agree with the charges against her and declares that the above video was an installation and fake.
Regarding Ahmadova's health, the lawyer noted that "it remains unchanged."
Earlier, Ahmadova complained of feeling unwell.
The lawyer did not say when the trial would start. -16B-

On Friday, the Baku Serious Crimes Court continued the proceedings in the case of opposition politician Tofiq Yagublu. Yagublu's lawyers requested the summons of additional witnesses, including members of the National Council of Democratic Forces, opposition activists, and Yagublu’s wife, Maya Yagublu. Contrary to the prosecution's claims that Yagublu was involved in handing over money to facilitate a visa for Elshan Huseynov in the Zabrat settlement, his lawyers argued that he was actually attending a National Council meeting in the Pirshaghi settlement at that time. Witnesses can confirm this. The court partially granted the request, deciding to call four additional witnesses. The next court session is scheduled for October 18.
