Iran Pulled New Warship to Caspian Sea

March 17, the Iranian navy in the Caspian Sea received a new warship. Launching of the ship called Jamaran-2 was produced in the port city of Anzali in the presence of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi and Chief of Staff Major General Hassan Firuzabadi.

The ship was designed and built by the Ministry of Defense of Iran and has a modern navigation equipment and complex defense systems, the agency IRNA.

As expected, the ship will join the Navy after the tests.

Jamaran-2 is the second ship of the kind built in Iran. The first destroyer called Jamaran was launched in the Persian Gulf in 2010.

Earlier, Iran's Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayar said that Jamaran II has 1420 tons displacement and is armed with missiles "ground-to-air", "ground-to-ground" and torpedoes. This is a multi-purpose high-speed ship, capable to fight submarines, aircraft and enemy ships in electronic warfare. The destroyer has a helipad and a place to launch man-portable air defense systems.

However, according to Western experts, judging by the size and arm this ship can not be regarded as a destroyer, but rather a multi-purpose frigate of the near sea area, e.g. a corvette on the western classification. Its length is 94.5 meters, the width is 11 meters, the speed is 30 knots, the draft is 3.2 meters, and the crew is 140 people.

Artillery weapons: one gun Fajr 27 (analog of 76 Melara / mk75), one gun caliber of 40 mm, torpedo tubes - two devices 324 mm; anti-warship complexes - four sets of Noor (analog of Yj-82 (c-802), and two 20 mm machine guns. -02D-
