Jean Claude Mignon: Azerbaijan has committed to the CE and must comply with them
Azerbaijan 's upcoming chairmanship in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe in May-November this year, a good opportunity to identify priorities in the settlement of the Karabakh conflict. On this, as special correspondent of Turan Strasbourg , said on January 27 at a press conference before the start of the winter session of PACE , the outgoing head of the Assembly Jean-Claude Mignon. However, Mignon expressed concern at the escalation of tensions in recent days on the frontline of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
While Mignon expressed support for the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group.
Mignon also called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to follow the example of Germany and France, who signed 50 years ago a Elysee treaty that put an end to the eternal enmity and turned both countries into allies.
However, Mignon said that if he is elected Secretary General of the Council of Europe, one of his priorities will be settlement of the Karabakh conflict.
At the same time, Mignon evasively answered the question whether Azerbaijan to chair the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe with so many political prisoners.
"It is impossible to answer this question in a few minutes " - Mignon said , adding that Azerbaijan has committed to the CE and must comply with them. --16D06-
