Lavrov does not lose hope for a ceasefire in Karabakh
Moscow/19.10.20/ Turan: In the very near future Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia may agree on a mechanism for monitoring the ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh, said on Monday at a press conference by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
For the ceasefire to work, it is necessary to create a mechanism for monitoring compliance with the ceasefire regime. “We are actively working on this, including our Ministry of Defense, primarily with colleagues from Azerbaijan and Armenia. I hope that such a mechanism will be agreed in the very near future," he said.
For now, the most important thing is to stop immediately escalating confrontational rhetoric both between the parties and on the part of international players, Lavrov stressed, referring to Turkey.
At the same time, it is necessary to stop hostilities, stop strikes on civilian targets: “This is the very demand that is contained in the statement of the presidents of Russia, the United States and France - the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs.
Lavrov said about the need to accelerate significantly efforts to resolve the conflict politically: "We must induce the parties to agree on key provisions that will allow stabilizing the situation in this region in the longer term." -02D-
