Leader of the House of Representatives of Uruguay deceives Azerbaijani Ambassador
Azerbaijani embassy in Argentina, which is also accredited in Uruguay, has sent a protest note to the Uruguayan Foreign Ministry in connection with the visit of the parliamentary delegation of the country, led by the chairman of the House of Representatives, to the occupied Azerbaijani territories.
The note indicated the illegality of this visit, and meetings and statements of members of the delegation are regarded as not respecting the sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of internationally recognized borders of Azerbaijan.
It was also noted that the visit, which demonstrated the irresponsibility and neglect, also causes damage to the process of the peaceful settlement of the conflict.
Moreover, the note stresses that previously, speaker of the House of Representatives of Urguvay, Jorge Orica, assured the ambassador of Azerbaijan, that during his visit to the region he will not visit the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
Embassy once again brought to the attention of the Uruguayan side, that as a result of military aggression of Armenia, 20 percent of Azerbaijani territories, including Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding regions have been occupied. As a result of the ethnic cleansing, one million Azerbaijanis became refugees and IDPs.
In the territories occupied by Armenia all the monuments of historical and cultural heritage of Azerbaijan have been destroyed.
The UN Security Council resolutions - 822, 853, 874, 884, and 62/243 of the UN General Assembly demand unconditional withdrawal of Armenian forces from all occupied territories.
This position is shared by a number of international and regional organizations, including the OSCE, PACE, the European Parliament, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and others.
The Embassy of Azerbaijan in its note has asked the Foreign Minister of Uruguay to investigate the incident and express attitude to this matter.—06D--
