The State Department said on Monday the highly classified Pentagon documents that were leaked last week will not impact U.S. support for Ukraine.

"... We’re going to continue to support Ukraine in the wake of Russia’s brutal aggression for as long as it takes, and that continues to be the case," Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel told TURAN's Washington correspondent during a daily briefing.

The largest U.S. military leak in a decade, which was circulated online, contained sensitive information on Ukraine’s strategy on the battlefield, among other intelligence matters, ahead of the country's expected counteroffensive this spring.

Asked by TURAN whether the leak will impact the trajectory of the war, Patel said, "I will let our Ukrainian partners speak to the decisions that they’re making as it relates to the battlefield and their – any posture or planning that they are undertaking."

The Biden administration is still reviewing the validity of the documents. "After learning about the leak, the Department of Defense quickly referred the matter to the Department of Justice, which has opened a criminal investigation," Patel said.

U.S. officials across the interagency are "engaging with allies and partners at high levels over this, including to reassure them of our commitment to safeguarding intelligence and the fidelity of securing our partnerships as well," he concluded.
