Meeting of Azerbaijani FM with Head of ICRC
Baku / 28.02.18 / Turan: Within the framework of participation in the session of the UN Human Rights Council, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer.
As the press service of the Foreign Ministry informs, during the meeting, satisfaction was expressed with the cooperation between Azerbaijan and the ICRC, which continues for more than 20 years. The support and assistance provided by the ICRC is highly valued in Azerbaijan.
Referring to the humanitarian aspects of Armenia's military aggression against Azerbaijan, Mammadyarov drew attention to the changing demographic situation in the occupied territories. It is about occupation of the territories of Azerbaijan, seized by Armenia, by ethnic Armenians from Syria and the conduct of illegal economic and other activities there, which is a gross violation of international humanitarian law, in particular the Geneva Convention.
The need to continue efforts towards effective cooperation in providing humanitarian support from the ICRC to the residents of the front zone, as well as collecting biological samples in families where there are missing persons, was also stressed.
An exchange of views took place on the prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and the ICRC. -03C06-
