MNS Confiscate All Computers from www.moderator.az Editorial Office
The website Moderator.az issued a statement in connection with the detention of it’s director Parviz Gashimli on suspicion of smuggling and illegal possession of weapons.
The statement authors remind us of the search of his home, carried out by the MNS after the arrest of Parviz Gashimli, and to the offices of the website Moderator.az and the newspaper Bizim Yol. In the website editorial, a search began in the evening, and ended late at night.
Nine employees of MNS participated in the search, with two witnesses and Parviz Gashimly himself. It was recorded that all computers, documentation, materials used by journalists, and equipment were confiscated.
Conversation with the staff, Parviz categorically denied all the charges against him. He asked that his words be conveyed to the public and international organizations.
His colleagues suggest that the arrest is connected with Gashimli public activities.
Authors of the statement note that they always triy to remain a neutral, and maintained an equal distance between the opposition and the government. They also report that Parviz Gashimli previously performed Hajj, and he does not drink alcohol or smoke. His colleagues do not believe that drugs or weapons would ever be “found” in his house.
Despite the confiscation of all computers at the site, staff intends to continue using their personal laptops. They express a hope that their colleagues will support them.
The authors of the statement called on the international community and international human rights organizations not to remain indifferent to the arrest of Parviz Gashimli . -05D04-

On January 13, the trial in the case of public activist Nijat Ibrahim continued in the Baku Serious Crimes Court under the chairmanship of Judge Aygun Gurbanova. The International Committee of Concerned Scholars (ICS) has appealed to the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, requesting his assistance in securing the release of the arrested researcher, Igbal Abilov. The ICS expressed concern that Abilov's arrest "may be related to his research on ethnic minorities in Azerbaijan, conducted in collaboration with scholars from Armenia."
