MP on deportation of migrants from Russian Federation
In 2025, Russia has tightened legislation in the field of migration policy. One of the innovations is the reduction of the period of visa-free stay of foreigners from 180 to 90 days.
Since 5 February, the procedure for deportation of illegal migrants has been simplified. Among those deported there are already citizens of Azerbaijan.
Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Labour and Social Policy of Milli Majlis Elshad Musayev told Turan correspondent that Russia's steps in relation to migration have both ‘economic and political nature’.
‘When they are dissatisfied with something, they immediately tighten migrant-related laws. But when they need to, they turn a blind eye to the existing laws,’ the MP said.
In his opinion, Russia uses the migrant issue as a tool to put pressure on the CIS countries.
‘They want to influence and put pressure on countries through migrants. Azerbaijanis live in Russia, but most of them have Russian citizenship. As for migrants-citizens of Azerbaijan, ‘if they want to return, the Azerbaijani state will create conditions for them’,’ the MP believes.
