Mubariz Gurbani urged to give up self-flagellation in Ashura
Baku / 18.09.18 / Turan: The Ashura ceremony should be held in accordance with the fatwa of the Caucasus Muslims Office, announced today the head of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations, Mubariz Gurbanli. Speaking at a seminar on the tradition of religious ceremonies, he urged believers to abandon the ceremony of self-flagellation by chains and bloodletting. "This is unacceptable and we are against such actions as the Office of Muslims of the Caucasus," he said. He also spoke against attracting children to the Ashura ceremony, which is celebrated this year on September 20.
Ashura is celebrated on the 10th day of the month of Muharram. On this day the Shiites mourn the death of Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad and the son of Imam Ali. -02D-
