Mukhtar Babayev has been appointed President of COP29
Baku/07.01.23/Turan: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has appointed Mukhtar Babayev, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the country, a President of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), to be held in November 2024 in Baku.
Babayev is also entrusted with the powers of the Presidents of the 19th session of the meeting of partners of the Kyoto Protocol and the 6th session of the meeting of partners of the Paris Climate Agreement. The President signed the corresponding decree on Sunday.
Babayev is authorized to form a team of representatives responsible for conducting preparatory work and presiding over these events. --06B-

Activist Nijat Ibrahim, who was detained in Baku pre-trial detention center-1, inflicted numerous wounds on himself on November 20 in protest against unjustified criminal prosecution, his wife Parvin Ibrahim told Turan. According to her, on November 21, her husband called her and informed her that the day before he had inflicted incised wounds on himself with a piece of mirror. In particular, he cut his throat and ears.
