Musavat demands the release of Famil Khalilov and ensuring the rights of other prisoners
The pre-election situation in the country was discussed on August 6 at a meeting of the Musavat party board, the organization's press service reported.
During the discussions, it was noted that 21 candidates for deputy have already been registered from the party. At the same time, other candidates from the party faced obstacles from the executive authorities.
The Musavat board also noted the need for the relevant authorities to conduct an investigation in connection with the facts of torture in Baku SIZO-1 made public by the director of Abzats Media.
The difficult situation of the disabled prisoner Famil Khalilov was also discussed. The paralyzed activist has developed numerous sores on his body due to the lack of care in the pre-trial detention center.
As the party chairman Isa Gambar told Turan, at the board meeting on July 5, a resolution was adopted reminding the authorities of Azerbaijan's accession to the International Convention against Torture.
Therefore, torture in places of detention is unacceptable. The party demanded the release of Famil Khalilov.
The Musavat Party also demands that the authorities take radical decisions to ensure transparency and legality in places of detention.
The party also noted the importance of fulfilling the legal demands of prisoners to contact their relatives, facilitating contacts with lawyers.
The party also expects the authorities to stop persecuting the journalist Afgan Sadygov, arrested at the request of Baku. Georgia, added Isa Gambar.
