Musavat to Consider Question of Holding Protests
The Musavat party will submit an appeal against the decision of the CEC on August 27 to refuse the registration of the campaign group Republi for the referendum on constitutional amendments. Turan was told by the head of the executive office of the party, Gulaga Aslanli.
Today the party will receive the decision of CEC and on 30 August it will appeal against it to the Baku Court of Appeal.
CEC explained its decision by saying that 3,600 signatures in the signature sheets of Musavat were deemed invalid, as they either coincided or errors were revealed in the written data of the voter identification cards.
‘The CEC decision is completely political. Musavat presented 41,128 voters' signatures to CEC on August 22. We rechecked the correct signatures. In addition, we pre-addressed to CEC on whether there were any problems with the signatures, but we were not shown any claims.
Twenty-four hours before the meeting of CEC, they had to submit us the protocol of the working group that checked the signatures. But this was not done,’ said Aslanli.
He noted the party would discuss the issues on holding protests in connection with the referendum. The party opposes the amendments, considering them as undemocratic.
‘At today's Board meeting we will discuss the protests,’ said Aslanli. -03B-
