"Musavat" urged citizens to reject the changes to the Constitution
For many years, the authorities regularly make changes to the Constitution that have the same goal - further tighten government control over society, not to allow the democratic governance of the country, stated the statement of the party "Musavat" published on Tuesday in connection with the changes in the main law of the country proposed on the eve by the head of state.
Similar changes were made to the Constitution in 2009, when the authorities dragged the right of one person to be elected president more than two times, in the absence of conditions for normal elections, said the statement.
"The draft of the Act on Referendum directed to the Constitutional Court, indicates that the authorities intend to further tighten the current authoritarian regime, to make absolute the power of the President of the country," noted the document. The proposed changes are contrary to the interests of the people, and society should protest against the proposed changes.
Aliyev proposed to extend the presidential term from 5 to 7 years, to remove the age limit 35 years old for the candidate, to elect First Vice-President and Vice-Presidents of the country, etc.-05D-
