Last night the mother of the convict Nemat Panahli - one of the activists of the national liberation movement in Azerbaijan of the late 80s, died.
"Today in the afternoon the funeral will be held, but the authorities did not react to our request to release Nemat for the funeral," his brother Samad told Turan. He noted that the appeal was sent 4 days ago, when their mother in serious condition was taken to hospital. "If that's not enough, I am once again appealing to the authorities through the press," said Panahli's brother.
In turn, the head of the department of public relations of the Penitentiary Service Mehman Sadigov said that such an offer had not come, and if it comes, it will be considered.
Recall that Nemat Panahli was arrested in January 2011 on charges of disorderly conduct with a weapon and sentenced to six years in prison. In 2012, the authorities did not release Panahli for his father's funeral.
Several human rights organizations recognize Panahli a political prisoner. It is believed that the real reason for his arrest was his critical articles about the government. -03B-

Voting in the early elections to the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan began at 8:00. Voting is taking place at 6,478 polling stations throughout Azerbaijan, including the lands liberated from occupation. 990 candidates are competing for 125 seats in the unicameral parliament.

Armenia is not against the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group, but does not consider it appropriate to discuss this issue now. On August 31, Azerbaijan observes a "day of silence" before the Sunday’s early parliamentary elections for the unicameral Milli Majlis. All electoral campaigning is prohibited 24 hours before the voting. The early elections were initiated by the ruling Yeni Azerbaijan Party. This decision was motivated by the overlap of the scheduled elections in November with the global UN forum - the COP20 climate conference taking place in Baku.
