No obstacles to signing peace treaty with Armenia - Ilham Aliyev
Baku/22.11.23/Turan: Development of bilateral relations and regional issues were touched upon at a meeting between President Ilham Aliyev and British Minister of State for Europe and North America Leo Docherty on Wednesday.
The guest emphasised the importance of his country's contribution to regional peace and stability and was proud of having "very important political, economic, trade and energy relations with Azerbaijan for many years".
He noted that Azerbaijan is not only an important energy supplier to Europe, but also an important country in the South Caucasus.
In turn, Ilham Aliyev emphasised the role of oil company BP in the development of bilateral relations and implementation of investment projects in Azerbaijan. According to him, relations between Baku and London are at a high level, and Leo Docherty's visit will help further develop these ties.
Touching upon the situation in the region, Aliyev said: "There are no obstacles to the signing of a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia, our country supports the regional peace agenda and Azerbaijan is ready for dialogue with Armenia to conclude a peace treaty and normalize relations between the two countries".
In response, Docherty said that the UK is ready to support this process. -02D-

According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, officials from the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office's Anti-Smuggling Unit have detained an Azerbaijani citizen with a large shipment of gold. The detention took place near the Vadi İstanbul shopping center in the Sarıyer district, where a taxi was stopped. During the search, 70 kg of gold was found. The Azerbaijani citizen in the vehicle claimed ownership of the cargo and also stated that he was a diplomat. The investigation by the prosecutor's office is ongoing, reports Sabah newspaper. The media outlet does not disclose the name of the "diplomat," only his initials – M.G.Ş. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declined to comment on the situation.
