Ombudsman, Foreign Ministry and Prosecutor General`s Office on torture of Azerbaijani soldiers in Armenia
Baku/13.04.23/Turan: Azerbaijani Ombudswoman Sabina Aliyeva has made a statement regarding the torture of a detained Azerbaijani soldier in Armenia.
“Photos and videos of torture and inhumane treatment of a soldier of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces have been distributed in the Armenian media.
Addressing international organizations, the Ombudswoman urged them to respond and urge Armenia to comply with the requirements of international law.
She also demanded that the representative office of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Armenia urgently visit Azerbaijani servicemen and provide information about their condition.
The official representative of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Ayhan Hajizade, also commented on the fact of torture of the serviceman. "Azerbaijani servicemen who disappeared a few days ago in the direction of the Shahbuz region of Nakhchivan were detained in Armenia. They were severely beaten and tortured. Such treatment is contrary to international humanitarian law, absolutely unacceptable and should be condemned at the international level!", Hajizadeh wrote on Twitter.
In turn, the Investigative Department of the Prosecutor General's Office opened a criminal case on the fact of torture of a captured soldier. The Prosecutor General's Office will appeal to the relevant authorities of foreign countries and will cooperate with international organizations to punish persons who have committed illegal actions against citizens of Azerbaijan. ----06B---
