PACE co-rapporteurs met with journalists
Co-rapporteurs of the PACE Monitoring Committee Pedro Agramunt and Joseph Gresh held a meeting with a group of media representatives in Azerbaijan.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Chief Editor of Azadlig Rahim Hajiyev, the Institute of Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS) Director Emin Huseynov and the head of the NGO "For Human Rights" Fatullayev.
The meeting discussed the situation with freedom of the media and the Internet.
According to Rahim Hajiyev, he focused on the pressure on the newspaper Azadlig and in general on the free press.
Huseynov focused attention on the threat to Internet freedom. He reported IRFS prepared a report on the situation with the freedom of the Internet, but the authorities did not allow to distribute it in the Baku Global Forum on Internet Governance that was held in Baku.
Fatullayev also expressed the view that, despite the problems with the law in other areas, the freedom of the Internet is normal.
In turn, Gresh also acknowledged problems with rights and freedoms in Azerbaijan. "We will do everything possible to solve these problems," he said. -03B06-
