PACE rapporteur appointed for Sarsang reservoir
PACE appointed a rapporteur on the draft resolution relating to the state of the Sarsang reservoir, located in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. This decision was taken at the May 12 meeting of the PACE Committee on Social Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development in Nicosia, Cyprus, said Azerbaijan Association for Civil Society Development . The appointed rapporteur is a deputy of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milica Markovic.
The head of the association, Deputy Elkhan Suleymanov participated at that meeting.
The need to attract attention to the Sarsang problem is caused by the threats and challenges posed by Armenian separatists to the population of the adjacent regions of Azerbaijan.
The Sarsang reservoir was built in 1976 on the river Tartar at a height of 726 meters above sea level and is the highest in Azerbaijan. Since 1992, the reservoir has been controlled by the Armenian armed forces, resulting in the fact that the frontal regions Azerbaijan cannot use its water resources.
On the other hand, over the past two decades, the technical facilities and equipment of the Sarsang reservoir due to lack of proper maintenance came to an emergency state. The probability of failure of the reservoir as a result of accidents, natural disasters or sabotage is extremely high and is a threat of flooding of adjacent territories of Azerbaijan. -06d -
