Strasbourg/08.10.22/Turan: President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky will speak via videoconference to the participants of the PACE autumn session, which opens on October 10 in Strasbourg.

According to the press service of the Council of Europe, Irish President Michael D. Higgins and President of the Swiss Confederation Ignazio Cassis, as well as Prime Minister of Albania Edi Ram are also scheduled to speak at the session.

A traditional ceremony will be held during the session.

Vaclav Havel Human Rights Prize 2022, awarded to human rights defenders. The winner will be selected from the three candidates included in the final list.

The agenda of the session includes debates on the European perspective for the Western Balkans, countering Islamophobia or anti-Muslim racism, discrimination against vaccines and the impact of Brexit on human rights on the island of Ireland. The Assembly should also discuss Turkey, Hungary and Romania's compliance with obligations. 

Along with that, debates on three "current issues" have been requested:

"Europe six months after the start of Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine", "Food security in Europe: grain exports through Ukrainian ports" and "Military actions between Armenia and Azerbaijan".

Besides that, a debate has been requested in an urgent manner on the topic: "The latest outrageous and inhumane actions of the Russian Federation."

Whether these issues will be included in the agenda of the session and when they will take place, the parliamentarians will determine on Monday.

During the session, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Maria Peychinovich Burich, will answer questions from PACE members.

Also, the Assembly plans to discuss reports on the misuse of the Schengen Information System by states as politically motivated sanctions, discrimination against women in sports, safe third countries for asylum seekers, illegal migration management measures, etc. -06B-
