Pashinyan: Azerbaijan Fears Spread of Democracy from Armenia
Baku / 13.07.18 / Turan: Azerbaijan became more aggressive after the change of power in Armenia. This was stated by Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan at a briefing at NATO Headquarters on July 12.
"Unfortunately, after the progress of democracy and the democratic revolution in Armenia, Azerbaijan has become more aggressive, and this aggression is directed not only against Armenia, but also against democracy in our region," Pashinyan said.
"From the very first days of assuming the post of Prime Minister, I saw an increase in tension on the border with Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border."
"I would like to emphasize that any aggression of Azerbaijan against Armenia is an aggression not only against Armenia, but also against democracy. I believe the President of Azerbaijan has some fears that democratic processes can spread from Armenia to Azerbaijan and, as far as I understand, they are trying to increase tensions in order to prevent the movement of a democratic wave from Armenia to Azerbaijan," Pashinyan said.
Commenting on these statements, the official representative of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Hikmet Hajiyev, called the statements about the growing tension on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and the contact line of the troops a "lie". The Armenian leadership is trying to deceive the international community. "Pashinyan, speaking of democracy and human rights, which Armenia has nothing to do with, is trying to justify his coming to power in an undemocratic way, through a coup d'état. We would recommend that the Armenian leadership finally come to its senses and realize the realities," Hajiyev said. -02D-
