Pashinyan explained why Azerbaijan is blocking the Goris-Kafan Road
Baku/15.09.21/Turan: Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan called a possible reason for the inspection of Iranian trucks by the Azerbaijani police on the section of the Goris-Kafan Road he controls.
In December 2020, the Armenian Armed Forces were withdrawn to the borders of Soviet Armenia. "This process was carried out in order to avoid a new military escalation," Pashinyan said, speaking in parliament on Wednesday.
The 2010 law on the administrative division of Armenia states that the administrative boundaries of the villages of Shurnukh and Vorotan correspond to the Armenian-Azerbaijani Soviet border.
"The Goris-Kapan Road in this section in two places goes beyond the borders of the Republic of Armenia or formerly Soviet Armenia. It is because of this circumstance that famous inscriptions and checkpoints appeared there," Pashinyan noted.
In December, it was agreed that this road should be freely used by vehicles and for the transit of goods. The text of the agreement does not mention the passage of foreign cargo, and therefore Azerbaijan uses it. “In all likelihood, in response to our statements that the statements on November 9 and January 11 do not mention the provision of a corridor through Armenia,” Pashinyan said.
In his words, Armenia accepts the fact that foreign cargo, crossing the border of the country, must pass through customs, passport and other points, as fixed in the legal framework of the CIS.
From Pashinyan's speech, we can conclude that he considers the actions of the Azerbaijani authorities to be justified. -02D-
