Patriarch Ilia II asks to open the Georgian diocese for the Georgians of Azerbaijan
Baku/23.07.22/Turan: On Friday, the Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II met with the Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office Allahshukur Pashazade in the Patriarchate of Georgia in Tbilisi, Georgian Public Television reported.
The Patriarch of Georgia awarded the chairman of the Caucasus Muslim Board with a special award of the Apostolic Orthodox Church of Georgia - the "Order of Friendship" for his outstanding contribution to strengthening friendly relations between the Georgian and Azerbaijani peoples.
At the meeting, the issue of opening the Georgian diocese for Georgians living in Azerbaijan, as well as the issue of the David Gareji monastery was raised, the report said.
The Georgian side has repeatedly raised the issue of revising the border so that all the buildings of the monastery, called Keshikchidag in Azerbaijan, would be on the Georgian side. Baku has repeatedly rejected this possibility, believing that the monastery divided by the state border is directly related to the history of Azerbaijan.-- 02D--
