Prague proposes to open a railway tourist route Czech Republic-Central Asia
Baku/25.11.22/Turan: Turkey proposes to extend the route of the Orient Express railway, running between Ankara and Kars, to Baku, Anadolu reports. At a meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Transport of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan in Aktau on November 24-25, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey, Adil Karaismailoglu said that with the commissioning of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway, the importance of not only the transportation of goods, but passenger traffic increased. “During a recent visit to Georgia, I suggested to Mr. Rashad Nabiev [Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan] to extend the passenger transportation line to Baku,” Karaismailoglu said.
The head of the Turkish Ministry of Transport noted that recently Ankara received an application from one of the members of the Association for Cooperation of Railways of the Czech Republic, where they propose to establish tourist transportation by 2024, starting from the Czech Republic and to Kazakhstan (the route is the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Turkey , Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan). “I would like to emphasize that more efforts should be made to remove obstacles in this direction,” Karaismailoglu said.
According to Anadolu, Karaismailoglu also proposed to establish a Joint Coordinating Council for Road Transportation in the Organization of Turkic States zone. The Minister also touched upon the importance of the idea of opening the Zangezur Corridor. “We believe that with the opening of the Zangezur Corridor and the completion of the construction of the Nakhchivan-Kars railway, as a continuation of this corridor, transport links between our countries will be activated,” he said.
