Prosecutor Asks to Condemn Group Preparing Terrorist Attack during Eurovision SC
At today's meeting in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes on the case of the Azadxeber.org website editor Nijat Aliyev and seven other defendants, the Prosecutor spoke. All of the defendants are accused of trying to attack Eurovision - 2012.
According to the lawyer Anar Gasimov, the State Prosecutor asked to sentence Nijat Aliyev, Elvin Nasirov and Jeyhun Safarli to 10 years in prison. He asked for a 9-year prison sentence for Gorkhmaz Jamalov and Valeh Abdullayev, 8 years for Samir Huseynov, 7 years for Elimkhan Huseynov, 6 years for Emin Tofighi and Ali Aliyev, and 5 years for Safar Mammadov.
In addition to the attempts to attack, the defendants are accused of illegally distributing religious literature by prior agreement and of an attempt to overthrow the regime or change it, and of appeals to divide Azerbaijan. In addition, the above-named persons are accused of inciting national, racial, religious and social hatred.
The lawyer said that the performance of the State Prosecutor was met with violent protests of the audience.
According to the investigators, the defendants spread a video criticizing Eurovision in Sumgayit in April and May 2012 and opposed the holding of a gay pride parade in Azerbaijan. The hearing will continue on November 7.
Recall that on May 18, 2012 in the mosque Meshadi Dadash in Baku they met to plan protests against the Eurovision SC.
On the eve of the contest DHS conducted an operation and arrested several groups preparing terrorist attacks - a total of 40 people. The trials of several of them have already been completed. These persons, according to the investigation, cooperated with the Iranian secret service Sepah. -16D04-
