Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General for Serious Crimes put forward a formal charge against Ilgar Mamedov, leader of REAL (Republican alternative). The charges relate to riots in Ismailli region on January 23-24, Turan was told by the lawyer Fuad Agayev. Press Service of the Prosecutor General Office has not commented on this fact.
Earlier, the Interior Ministry and the Prosecutor General Office stated that Ilgar Mamedov and deputy chairman of "Musavat" Tofiq Yagublu arrived on the night of 23 January in Ismailli region, and incited people to riot.
Both opposition members rejected the allegations as spurious. His arrival in Ismailli, he explained, was the desire to become acquainted with what was happening.
This morning Mamedov and Yagublu were summoned for questioning to the Prosecutor Office. -02В-
