Radio Liberty Demands Restoring Its Baku Office
The Azerbaijani Economic Court will consider the claim of Radio Azadlig (Liberty) on the charges of tax evasion brought against the radio on August 3.
According to the radio report, namely on the basis of these charges, the station’s office in Baku was closed in December 2014.
The President of the radio Thomas Kent called the charges "baseless", saying the need to unlock all the arrested accounts of the Baku office, along with personal accounts of the employees, the return of confiscated stamps and seals and documents, and to take measures for the resumption of the radio’s activity in Baku. -03D04-

On January 17, the Khatai District Court of Baku rejected the requests for house arrest for journalists Aynur Elgünesh and Natig Djavadly, employees of Meydan TV, their lawyers, Elchin Sadigov and Zibeyda Sadigova reported to Turan news agency. According to the lawyers, there are no legal or procedural grounds for keeping the journalists in detention. The journalists themselves stated that the criminal case against them had been fabricated to punish them for their professional activities. The defense intends to appeal the court's refusal to transfer the journalists to house arrest.
