Rahim Huseynov: Famous figure of Soviet and Azerbaijani history has died at the age of 87
On November 11, Rahim Huseynov, a prominent statesman of Azerbaijan, died at the age of 87. His funeral took place on Sunday at the Yasamal cemetery in Baku, where relatives, friends and colleagues gathered to say goodbye to him for the last time.
Born in 1936 in Baku, Rahim Huseynov's remarkable career spanned decades and encompassed various roles in economic, social, and political spheres. In 1959 he graduated from the Moscow Steel Institute with a degree in metallurgical engineering. His career began in 1959 when he commenced work at the Azerbaijan Pipe Rolling Plant named after V. I. Lenin, where he held positions ranging from master to senior engineer to head of the Technological Bureau.
His dedication to public service led him to serve as the Chief Specialist of the Department and subsequently as the Head of the State Planning Committee of the Azerbaijan SSR. He later assumed the role of Deputy Head and eventually became the Head of the Main Department of the Council of Ministers of the Azerbaijan SSR for Logistics. His commitment to the nation's development continued as he took on the position of Chairman of the State Planning Committee of the Azerbaijan SSR.
One of the high points of his career was his appointment as the 2nd Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a role he held from 1992 to 1993. His leadership during this critical period left a lasting impact on the country.
In addition to his political career, Rahim Huseynov served as a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Azerbaijan SSR in its 9th to 12th convocations. His contributions to the legislative and policy-making processes were widely acknowledged.
After his retirement from formal positions, Rahim Huseynov remained active in scientific and social pursuits. He took the helm of the International Caspian Foundation and held the esteemed position of Vice President of the International Union of Scientists and Engineers.
Colleagues and friends fondly remember Rahim Huseynov not only for his distinguished career but also as a remarkable individual. He was hailed as a devoted patriot, a caring family man, and a true friend. His legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
