REAL Appeals to Bakus Executive Power and Hotels for Venue to Hold Its Congress Again

Baku / 15.11.17 / Turan: The Republican Alternative Movement (REAL) once again appealed to the relevant departments for a venue to hold its congress. This time, along with the Executive Power of the City of Baku, the Movement turned to hotels with technical facilities for holding conferences and other events.

According to the message of REAL, the appeal was sent on behalf of the Initiative Group of the Republican Alternative Party. This time, 7 organizations were asked to provide a venue for the congress.

In addition to the capital"s Executive Power, the Movement appealed to the Azerbaijan State Opera and Ballet Theater, the International Press Center, Pullman Baku, Park Inn, Hyatt Regency and The Landmark Baku.

The appeal says the congress may be held on Saturday or Sunday before the end of the year. For the congress, a room with 400 seats is required.

This is not the first REAL appeal in connection with the allocation of a venue for the congress. Earlier, the Movement addressed the Executive Power three times.

REAL planned to hold a congress on October 29 this year. It was expected to change the Movement"s stgatus to a party. Such a decision was made on September 24 with the participation of representatives of the district branches of the Movement. After this decision, the Initiative Group applied to the Executive Power with a request for a room. The appeal was sent to the Main Directorate of Culture and Tourism of the capital"s Executive Power, which did not give a positive response to the provision of a venue for the congress. In response, it was said about the impossibility of holding a congress in the place indicated in the appeal. The Movement could not achieve its goals with subsequent appeals either.

REAL was established in 2009. It gives preference to the Republicanism idea. The Chairman of the Movement, Ilgar Mammadov, was arrested in January 2013 in connection with the Ismayili events. He was accused of organizing mass riots and sentenced to 7 years imprisonment. The European Court ruled on his release, but he has not yet been released. -0-
