Baku/19.05.23/Turan: The European Union Delegation to Azerbaijan on 18 May hosted a reception on the occasion of Europe Day.
Welcoming the participants of the event, head of the mission Peter Mikhalko noted development of partnership between the EU and Azerbaijan, the indicator of which he called intensification of mutual visits, including at the highest level.
Touching upon development of economic ties, Mikhalko said that the European Union funds will invest 60 million euro in Azerbaijan till 2024.
Besides, the EU is developing an economic and investment plan that may attract up to 2 billion euros of investments, which will promote the development of various spheres of the economy.
Touching upon energy, Mikhalko said that Azerbaijan is able to supply Europe not only with hydrocarbons, but also with "green energy". The first step in this direction was the signing of an agreement on the construction of a submarine cable across the Black Sea.
The EU is also interested in cooperation with Azerbaijan on the Middle East Corridor project. In particular, to cooperate with the Port of Baku to establish a sustainable transport system.
Azerbaijan and the EU continue to work towards "Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation Agreement".
The EU also supports measures to ensure stability, security and lasting peace in the South Caucasus, concluded Mikhalko.
In turn, speaking on behalf of the Azerbaijani government Mukhtar Babayev emphasized that Baku highly appreciates the EU contribution to the process of normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations.
He noted the recent high dynamics of relations between Azerbaijan and the EU: "This applies not only to the issues of security in the region, but also the development of transport, logistics and energy," Babayev said.
He also highlighted the important role of Azerbaijani gas exports to Europe in Azerbaijan-EU relations.
"This opened a new page in the development of relations between us. The European Union is also Azerbaijan's main trade partner," Babayev said. -06В-
