Russia Is Not Discussing Swap Gas Deliveries to the EU from Azerbaijan via Ukraine
Russia is not discussing the possibility of delivering Azerbaijani gas to the EU through Ukraine's gas transportation system, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak stated on Wednesday. "It is not being discussed," he said.
Earlier, it was reported that Ukraine is exploring the possibility of transporting Azerbaijani gas through its territory. The gas was expected to be supplied from Russia.
On January 1, the transit of Russian gas to Europe through Ukraine was completely halted due to Kyiv's refusal to extend the agreement. Later, Reuters reported that the European Commission would continue negotiations with Kyiv regarding the supply of Azerbaijani gas to Europe via Ukrainian territory and intends to include Hungary and Slovakia in this process.
On January 25, Ukrainian President Zelensky stated that Azerbaijan could supply gas to European countries through Ukraine. He mentioned that he discussed this with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
"We could use our infrastructure if Europe needs gas. Kyiv is ready to help Azerbaijan," he said. Russian gas transit through Ukraine ceased on the morning of January 1. This route supplied fuel to Moldova, Hungary, Slovakia, and other countries.
