Russian Navy Exercises Start in Caspian Sea
On Thursday, military exercises of the Russian Navy began in the Caspian Sea. The maneuvers, headed by the commander of the flotilla, Vice-Admiral Sergey Alekminsky, involve up to ten warships, as well as the shore-based missile division of the complex Ball, more than 50 pieces of equipment and more than 1,300 military men of the flotilla, the press service of the Southern Military District reported.
The missile ship, Dagestan, and the gunship, Volgodonsk, after the visit to Baku, headed to the training area, to join a group of ships led by the flagship – the missile ship, Tatarstan, ITAR-TASS reported.
The ships will conduct joint exercises in a sea battle with the imaginary surface ships of the enemy. One of the stages of the maneuvers will be firing missiles at shore facilities.
In addition, the sailors will work out a training mission on the blockade and destruction of illegal armed groups in the insular areas of the Caspian Sea. The maneuvers will last until the end of the week, the press service of the Southern Military District said. -02D-
