National Council condemned the arrests of opposition activists
The National Council of Democratic Forces issued a statement condemning the arrest of Azer Ismail and other opposition activists in several regions of the country on August 12.
In the statement, received by the agency Turan, they also expressed a demand for the immediate release of those arrested and wanted the authorities to stop repression.
"We demand to ensure the freedom of assembly, and to put an end to repression and create a normal atmosphere for the elections," they stressed in the statement.
Recall that the deputy chairman of the Sabirabad branch of the party, Musavat Azer Ismail, was arrested for five days on trumped-up charges.
On August 13, the Masally police dispersed participants of the rally conducted by activists of Musavat.
On the same day in Lankaran, the police detained five members of Musavat.
Earlier, on August 6, the representative of the single candidate from the National Council, Sovdagar Mursaguliev, was detained, together with his seven-year old grandson, in Aghstafa.
In this regard, the National Council declares that this atmosphere, created long before the presidential election, has raised the question of the election’s legitimacy.
The National Council has repeatedly pointed to the unacceptable, and deteriorating, atmosphere on the eve of the election, the statement said. -03D-
