Russia’s Suspension Of New START Treaty 'Legally Invalid', State Department Says
Washington D.C./15.03.23/Turan: Russia's claimed suspension of the New START nuclear arms control treaty is 'legally invalid' and Moscow is still bound by its obligations under the accord, the State Department said on Wednesday in a fact sheet, TURAN's U.S. correspondent reports.
Washington "remains ready" to work constructively with Moscow to fully implement New START, and it believes that Russia’s war in Ukraine does not provide a valid basis for its noncompliance with the nuclear treaty.
"Nuclear stability is especially important in times of crisis, and the United States will continue working to maintain it," the State Department said.
