Scholz and Aliyev talked about energy and Karabakh
Baku/14.03.23/Turan: Azerbaijan is a partner of Germany and the European Union, whose role is growing. Germany is interested in peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan and is concerned about the recent increase in tension. This was stated by German Chancellor Scholz at a joint press conference with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
"Peace should be established taking into account the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and Armenia, and the rights of citizens of both countries should be ensured," he said. At the same time, he stressed that Germany did not recognize and does not recognize the independence of Karabakh.
Ilham Aliyev, in turn, said that the issues of developing cooperation between the EU and Azerbaijan, and in particular in the energy sector, were discussed. Azerbaijan plans to double the supply of natural gas to European countries. In the coming years, Azerbaijan will supply gas to Albania, Montenegro, the Czech Republic and Hungary, he said.
The development of cooperation in the field of green energy was discussed at a meeting with 30 large German companies. In particular, there is an agreement on the production and export of green energy to Europe, Aliyev continued.
Referring to the conflict with Armenia, he recalled that the territory of Azerbaijan has been under Armenian occupation for 30 years. The lands were liberated as a result of the Second Karabakh War. "We proposed to conclude peace on the basis of five principles that were accepted by the Armenian side. I hope Armenia will take advantage of this opportunity," he said. ---02B---

It is difficult to predict the future of Azerbaijan-U.S. relations under Donald Trump, said Ali Kerimli, leader of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (PFPA), in an interview with Turan agency. "Since Trump's team has not yet been formed, it is unclear who will be appointed Secretary of State, who is responsible for foreign policy. It is also unclear what priorities Trump's team will have for the Caucasus region," Kerimli noted. At the same time, certain assumptions can be made about Trump's policy.
