Sergei Lavrov refutes plans to appoint Zuyev as ambassador to Baku

Baku / 08.12.17 / Turan: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov refuted reports of a number of Azerbaijani media that Baku did not give consent to the appointment of Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Gennady Zuyev.

At a press conference on Friday, following a meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council in Vienna, Lavrov asked to comment on these reports, saying that the Russian side had never asked for an agreman to appoint Zuyev from the government of Azerbaijan.

He also made it clear that he considers it inappropriate to hint at the pro-Armenian position of Deputy Foreign Minister of the RF Ministry of Foreign Affairs G.Zuyev and Lavrov himself, about the Armenian origin of which the Azerbaijani press wrote. "The very theme of who has what ties, and how this affects the position, does not fully meet modern civilized standards," he said.

Answering the question Turan agency about the increase in the number of OSCE observers on the contact line in Karabakh, Lavrov said that this issue was discussed in May 2016 at the meeting of the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia with the participation of the heads of the foreign policy departments of the Minsk Group co-chairs in Vienna, and then in June in St. Petersburg.

After that, the principle agreement was transferred to the OSCE and now the OSCE special representative is trying to agree on practical parameters for the implementation of this agreement.

It should be noted that the Russian mass media wrote about the appointment of Zuyev as ambassador to Azerbaijan and approval of his candidacy by the State Duma committee on July 5.--0--
