Sergey Lavrov believes in the implementation of agreements between Baku and Yerevan
Moscow/ April 17.09.19/Turan: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed optimism about the results of the April 15 meeting in Moscow with his participation between the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia.
During the joint press conference in Moscow with Serbian Foreign Minister Dacic, Lavrov was asked whether it was true that the settlement plan proposed as early as 2016 was discussed at the April 15 meeting, what the main points of this plan are and how the humanitarian steps agreed by the ministers will be implemented.
Lavrov answered that the discussion of the 2016 plan was mentioned by the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Mammadyarov. "Therefore, I have nothing to add here," Lavrov said.
The proposals are enshrined in numerous statements by the heads of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries. They suggest searching for agreements between the parties themselves, based on the principles of territorial integrity, self-determination of peoples, non-intervention and non-use of force.
"I invite you to look at this series of statements by heads of state and on the latest statements that were adopted in the OSCE last December at a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers. It outlines all the basic areas of work. The details, of course, are confidential," said Lavrov.
Humanitarian measures following the April 15 meeting have been clearly stated in the Joint Statement, the parties should make additional efforts to stabilize the situation, especially for the period of agricultural work; facilitate visits by relatives to visit their relatives and friends who are held in prisons; in contacts between people and especially media representatives, the Russian minister said.
"I read the comments that similar things, especially in the humanitarian sphere, were coordinated earlier, but not always performed. It is true. But following the results of contacts held in Moscow, feeling the atmosphere in which work is currently taking place, I have reason to believe that both Baku and Yerevan are interested in the fact that this time these agreements do not remain on paper. We will help them in this," Lavrov stressed. -02D-
