Special Envoy of US State Department Arrives in Baku
On July 11, President Ilham Aliyev received US State Department's special representative on energy Amos Hockstein.
As stated in the statement on the website of the President, they discussed issues concerning the current state and prospects of the US-Azerbaijani relations. They noted the importance of strengthening cooperation in the energy sector.
Note that Hockstein became the first American officer of such a high rank, whom Baku agreed to receive. Earlier the visits of Thomas Melia and Tom Malinowski, Deputy Assistants to the Secretary of State, engaged in human rights and democracy, were denied.
This suggests that Baku intends to discuss with the US the same questions as with Europe - trade and energy. -02D-
