Strasbourg Court will consider claims from spouses Yunus in priority

Complaints of the human rights activist Leyla Yunus and her husband Arif Yunus will be considered by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) as a priority. Turan was told by their lawyer Khalid Baghirov.

According to him, the defense filed a complaint with the ECHR for the arrest of the couple Yunus, asking to recognize a violation of their right to liberty and security of the person guaranteed by the European Convention on Human Rights.

"Today, I received an official response from Strasbourg. The Court agreed to review the complaints in priority. That is, their application will be dealt with more expeditiously than it happens on normal priority," Baghirov said.

Baghirov also called significant the ECHR requirement to the government of Azerbaijan once a month to inform the Strasbourg Court on the health status and the course of treatment of Leyla and Arif Yunus.

The ECHR decision provides for the provision of adequate medical care to the applicants. If it is impossible to render in jail, the applicants should be transferred to a specialized medical facility.

The investigative journalist Khadija Ismayilova, commenting on the decision of the ECHR on considering the complaint of the spouses Yunus in priority on her page on Facebook, noted that this decision places the responsibility for the health of the applicants for adoption of a verdict on their complaints on the government of Azerbaijan.
