Support Platform for Ukraine created in Azerbaijan
Baku/01.02.22/Turan: A group of Azerbaijani activists established the "Ukraine Support Platform - for Democracy". “We, the citizens of Azerbaijan, at this fateful moment for the whole world, observing with deep concern the historical events taking place in Ukraine, understand our responsibility to all mankind,” the platform’s message says.
Expressing support for the international principles of territorial integrity, inviolability of territorial borders and state sovereignty, the Platform "condemns the possible use of military force by the Russian Federation aimed at undermining the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine." “Russia's actions pose a threat not only to Ukraine, but to the entire region.
The fact of violation of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova and the supply of weapons to the separatists, along with a gross violation of the fundamental principles of international law, is a threat to security on the entire continent,” the appeal reads further.
Accession to the EU and NATO is the sovereign right of any state and the restriction of this right through military-political pressure is categorically unacceptable, members of the Platform note. Ensuring the security of Ukraine is a very important factor, both for the national interests of Azerbaijan and for ensuring stability and peace in the entire post-Soviet space,” the Platform’s appeal continues, which calls on the Azerbaijani society to support its position.
The Ukraine Support Platform for Democracy is a civil initiative that does not represent any political party or public association, the appeal concludes.
The Platform included politicians, political scientists, journalists, representatives of the intelligentsia - Khagani Jafarli, Tural Agayev, Asif Yuisfli, Sevinj Vagifgyzy, Adil Geibulla, Tatyana Kryuchkina, Seymour Hazi and Abulfaz Gurbanly.—06B-
