T. Yagublu's Hunger Strike Reaches Dangerous Line - Adil Geybulla
Baku / 11.09.20 / Turan: Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Adil Geybulla on Friday conducted a medical examination in pretrial detention center No. 3 of the opposition politician Tofig Yagublu, who is on a hunger strike for 10 days.
Upon completion of his visit to Yagublu, the Professor told reporters that the politician had lost a lot of weight, looked pale and lethargic, and had difficulty walking.
“The fact that the person on a hunger strike talks and reacts does not mean that serious things are not happening to him. During a hunger strike, a person does not receive the necessary for metabolism and irreplaceable amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and electrolytes. This can lead to sudden cardiac arrest, thrombosis, etc. Tofig Yagublu's hunger strike is already in the second week and has come to a dangerous line. Therefore, we asked him to stop the hunger strike. But he refused. In this case, I explained to him that in the next few days he could fall into a coma and it is necessary at least to carry out supportive treatment. He agreed with this. We introduced an intravenous transfusion of a liter of liquid, vitamins and panangin to support the heart and kidneys,” Geybulla said.
He personally performed the procedures in the presence of the pretrial detention center’s doctors.
Geybulla appealed to the President of Azerbaijan with a request, taking into account Yagublu's age, his participation in the Karabakh war, and his state of health, to assist in changing the preventive measure and releasing him from custody for further treatment.
The politician's family had been insisting on Geybulla's admission to Yagublu for several days. —06D-
