Ten police officers suspended for violence against demonstrators in Tbilisi
Baku / 24.06.19 / Turan: The General Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia temporarily dismissed 10 police officers for possible abuse of power during the dispersal of a rally in Tbilisi outside the parliament building on June 20-21, announced on Monday the acting director of the central criminal police department, Mamuka Chelidze.
According to him, in the actions of two of the 10 police officers, the General Inspectorate discovered the corpus delicti. He also added that the department is ready to cooperate with the General Prosecutor"s Office of Georgia, which opened a criminal case on the article "Excess of official powers with the use of violence or weapons" of the Georgian Criminal Code in connection with the dispersal of the rally.
During the dispersal of the rally outside the parliament, 240 people were injured, 19 of whom are still in hospitals. The police used tear gas, rubber bullets and water cannons to disperse the demonstrators. Participants in those events claim that the police shot at them, aiming at the eyes. According to the Ministry of Health, more than five people received serious eye injuries. Doctors are now fighting to preserve the vision of the victims. -02D-
