Will Azerbaijan vote for the return of Russia to the Council of Europe?
Baku / 24.06.19 / Turan: The PACE summer session opened today in Strasbourg, one of the key issues of which will be the return of Russia to this organization.
According to members of the Ukrainian delegation, some countries are ready to support the return of Russia, and some are not. According to a member of the Ukrainian delegation, Leonid Emets, at the meeting of the regulatory committee of the Assembly "For" Russia is represented by France, Germany, Italy, Iceland, San Marino, Turkey, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Norway, and Monaco.
"Against" Russia are Ukraine, Great Britain, Poland, Georgia, Lithuania .
Those delegates who previously opposed Russia in PACE have now changed their position.
Despite the complexity of the situation, "we have several options for countering Russian revenge," writes Yemets on his Facebook page.
It is sad to look at how the Council of Europe itself destroys its own essence. Those principles and values for which this international organization was created. Principles that should be more important than money ", said the Ukrainian deputy.
In this situation, the delegation of Azerbaijan will also have to make a difficult choice. Baku is unlikely to go against Moscow, but it is also unrealistic to recognize a violation of Ukraine"s territorial integrity.
In April 2014, PACE deprived the Russian delegation of the right to vote and expelled its representatives from all the governing bodies of the Assembly in connection with the annexation of Crimea. -02D-
