The co-chairs of the Minsk Group crossed the front line (UPDATED)
Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group today crossed the front line during the monitoring of contact line between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces near the village of Bala Jafarli in Gazakh region. According to the press service of the Defense Ministry, at the moment of crossing the Armenian shots rang out. In Armenia, the co-chairs will continue talks with the Armenian leadership. The purpose of this mediators' visit is preparation of the forthcoming meeting of the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan in Paris at the end of Oktober.-16D-

In accordance with the mandate of the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman, on October 16 will be a regular monitoring on the contact line of troops near the village Bala Jafarli in the Gazakh region on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
From the Azerbaijani side, the monitoring will be conducted by field assistants of the Personal Representative, Jiri Aberle and Peter Svedberg, and from the Armenian side – by field assistants Hristo Hristov and Simon Teller, the press service of the Defense Ministry stated.
During the monitoring, the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Igor Popov (Russia), Pierre André (France) and assistants of the Russian and American mediators, David Salvo and Elena Kravchenko will pass from Azerbaijan to the opposite side. --03D06-

Ilham Aliyev congratulated Irakli Kobakhidze on the victory of the Georgian Dream party in the elections and wished him continued success. On January 17, the Khatai District Court of Baku rejected the requests for house arrest for journalists Aynur Elgünesh and Natig Djavadly, employees of Meydan TV, their lawyers, Elchin Sadigov and Zibeyda Sadigova reported to Turan news agency. According to the lawyers, there are no legal or procedural grounds for keeping the journalists in detention. The journalists themselves stated that the criminal case against them had been fabricated to punish them for their professional activities. The defense intends to appeal the court's refusal to transfer the journalists to house arrest.

Journalist Farid Ismayilov, who had been under police supervision in connection with the Toplum TV case, was detained on January 17 and brought to the Khatai District Court, his colleagues reported.

The preliminary investigation in the case of the Toplum TV publication (journalists and activists) is coming to an end, reported Rasul Jafarov, the lawyer of the Institute for Democratic Initiatives, Ruslan Izzatli.
